Wood tennis rackets are great!
…Even for beginners!
Well, I took up tennis a bit this summer. A pal is a t-nut, so I gave him someone to hit against. It was fun and I got better. It’s great to hit REAL HARD every time. Every few shots I get a good one in!
Anyway, I’m a beginner, but I’ve heard about this revival of wooden rackets. I’ve been using a bighead. I’ve assumed it would help my survivability and improve my luck.
Well, I went and found Martha’s old racket the other day and gave it a try. A nice old woody. A little warped, but kinda nice looking. Well, this thing hits good and FEELS REAL GOOD! It also sounds real good. It forces me to pay a little more attention, but so what, it’s good for you. The reward is VERY NICE! It has a musical instrument feel. Man, even I, a hack, can notice the improved niceness easily! It’s so tasty. Such a pronounced sweet spot. And what’s more is that I swear that when you hit it nice, it hits A LOT harder and the ball flies
A LOT faster than the sweet spot of a bighead. Very lively feel that even I can appreciate.
I don’t care about my score anyway. Actually, I don’t think I’ll give up that many points. It’s by far not my biggest problem. Hitting so nice and making such nice sounds and feels makes me not care if I ever win again.
