Big Buck, shot by pistol on fishing trip
Two brothers, friends of mine, went fishing for an afternoon in Montana
on their land this past fall. They caught a big rainbow then nothing.
They’d brought a 6″ iron-sight .357 with them. Tom had been seeing
deer skulking in brush while fishing so they thought to try a little
hunting. (They had licenses, it was in season.) Tom rousted the deer
with stones while his brother with the pistol waited at the far side
of the brushy area. The deer resisted rousting, kept skulking, but finally
one took off out far side. Boom boom boom. Mike dropped a whitetail
moving at 60 yds with 2 heart shots. 12 pt, approx 30″ x 14″ rack.
I’ve never seen such a big one.
In another story, earlier in the year Mike had been out shooting
at the range with the same pistol while some guys next to him were busy
missing a 10″ gong at 300 yds with their scoped rifles. Before
he left he took a shot at the gong, miss. He was going to leave but
his buddy said, Try again I think you were just a little low. So he
did. Boom……..clang! Everyone at the range thought that was pretty
neat. A good time to leave!
Both these brothers have always been great shots.
