We loaded up the car and drove to the Redford Theater in Detroit yesterday and watched a $4 matinee of “Singin ‘in the Rain” on the glorious big screen.
What a theater!
It’s designed like a Japanese village with lovely faux-depth and a starry night (with clouds and flickering stars overhead).
An organist rose up thru the floor to the stage and played a half-hour before the show.
Man, that Gene Kelly can dance!
The Argentinian Tango Group of Detroit entertained us at Intermission.
What a fun day out!
(The fun didn’t end after the show, neither — we hung out in Royal Oak with friends — and got to see a wonderful garden studio and a livingroom magic show — then went and found Johnny Cupcakes who showed up at the 323 Gallery en route on his first nationwide van-based Trunk Tour selling t-shirts. Lucy and Henry are t-shirt entrepreneurs themselves so they wanted to meet a pro. It was cool hangin’ with so many diminutive hipsters for awhile!)
