Why can’t healthcare be simple? Why should an employer have anything to do with it? I pay for my own. Offhand, I think that everyone else should, too. I certainly shouldn’t be doing it for them. I mean, should I? Someone please set me straight on this one—it should be a no-brainer.
If everyone paid their own way would more revenue be available at places like schools for things like child education? Could classroom sizes be smaller?
Could taxes be lowered a bit perhaps?
I don’t think of my view as being negative at all. I want liberation, and more of it. Having fewer strings attached to things means more liberty.
I want liberty for you, too! : ) Of course, some people maybe need to be liberated against their will, but what can ya do? Liberty starts at home, doncha know.
I also don’t believe that this is a political issue. It’s a cultural one, like everything we cover here at OYB.
In shopping for my own healthcare I looked for a good but cheap policy and I bought it from a guy I knew and who I personally decided that I could trust. See, that’s DIY and Local Spirit combined! Disintermediate now, people!
(Back when I had a fancy policy thru my wife’s gov’t job we seemed to get a new doctor every year. I’m not sure it’s a coincidence that now that we pay our own way we’ve had the same doc for 10 years. Local Spirit!)
To get the cheap aspect, sure, I have a high deductible. Most people would do this as well, if they bought their own. Is this a decent prescription for illness prevention, by any chance? If I caught a bad illness and ended up paying more out of pocket each year (to cover the deductible) than someone who didn’t have the illness, is that such a bad thing?
I think my policy is a good one. Everyone should have it and buy it like I did. Or, is there a good reason not?
If everyone bought their own is there a chance that policies would be cheaper in the first place?
Is there a chance that even with a bad disease and paying a few thousand a year more than typical that I’d still be money ahead overall due to lower overhead taxes and cheaper premiums in the first place?
Just wondering…
I mean, I think the DIY lifestyle is a pretty good one. The only sustainable one, in fact. More people could lead simpler lives if they didn’t insist on the bizarre tandem arrangement of work that comes with paid healthcare—especially if that care results in astronomically gross cost inflation with no slowing in sight and so much increased burdens that people willingly put on others (not very DIY, is it) that they end up preventing others from even being able to live a simple DIY life in the first place. I mean, I say No to the strings attached to getting a supposed gravy train. But I guess I’d also like you to, too. No hard feelings, but I don’t want any part of that racket and I don’t want to pay you to play either. But I pay my bills anyway.
