“Get a Season”

My pal Dave mentioned this the other day. People need to “get a season.” It’s kinda like “get a life.”

People shouldn’t just be bikers or skiers or paddlers or fishermen or hunters or runners. We’re people first. Then comes life. And in Michigan life has 4 seasons.

Activities, and those who sell them, try to make them life-consuming. They want us to do them year-round. “Biking is the best!” “Kayaking is the best!” “I live to fish and fish to live!”

Really, as gentlefolk we need to do things for their time and in their time then we move on to something else. A new season.

Now, there are seasons already, but people get so worked up about them that they spend months beforehand getting ready for their season. Then they try to stretch the season into others.

TV sports do this. Football starts sooner and lasts longer.

It just ain’t right.

Everybody needs elbowroom. We also need downtime. Time for doing nothing. Picnicking with the family. Catching up on the names of the children. Doing errands. Repairing the roof.
