[Here’s a report over the transom from RadNord. It was gloomy around here Saturday, then it rained Sunday and our snow was nuked. Some were sad… At least one loyal soul went out and had a couple good skis anyway…]
…from RadNord…
Sometimes you have to look at things from a different angle.
The last 2 days I have viewed from my skis’ point of view while making the most of the current last snow @ Stinchfield Woods.
Most would have said yesterday’s icy fast crud was enough to quit. My skis beg to differ. They enjoyed the speed on the Stinch descents and tore up every up and downhill possible, the good ones twice.
2.5 hours worth of Stinchfield Gran Fondo. No one around and plenty of snow. The Rossi’s toured up and shot a pic of technology @ the naval microwave dish. Stinch is diverse that way, cool terrain and trees mixed with technology — the biggest microwave dish in the county plus the tallest radio tower.
Today, well, today was one for all to stay home and inside. Oh, but my skis were there @ Stinch again. A dank, misty fog welcomed us onto a mix of slushy ice and snow mixed with dirt, rocks and rooty grass.
Speeds were diminished to a slog — you could run up the hills with no poles. Just the mere idea of being out in this funk was plenty, but my skis had to actually ski in it. My ski boots were soaked to the soles as the rain from above mixed with the slush on the ground. The last bit of current snow was wrung out of the place. I’d have stayed home, but looking at it from my skis’ point of view was the best thing I could have done.
Let the masses say there is no winter, no snow to ski on….I’m following my skis’ lead.

Huge microwave dish on Peach Mountain.
Who says there aren’t hills in SE Michigan? Stinchfield disagrees!
It gets worse.
Skis-eye view of the corn at Stinch. Not bad, on Saturday.
