Lake Skiing: It’s All Good

Trying all the modes out on the lake during lunch hour. Verdict: all good.

Lately we haven’t had enough snow to land-ski, so I’ve been ice-skating on the local lake. Skiing is good there, too. The snow is fluffy so skates cut thru to the nice black ice, but there’s enough that the skis don’t scrape-out.

My new Nordic Skates have been a blast. $29 from Jamie at Nordicskater.com. Tell him I sent ya! No more frozen fingers lacing up out on the lake. These clip into ski boots. Also no more tripping over rough ice. The free heel lets me recover from basically all obstacles. It’s a huge difference! They also work better with ski poles.

Today we’re finally getting pounded with enough snow that I’ll say goodbye to the lake. It was neat seeing the kite-skiers out there. Too bad I never got out when they were out. I’d like to go flying by them as they’re flying! (Tom and I usually could outspeed the iceboats, too.)

Today I tried all my modes for an hour before the snowstorm hit. The ski-skating was slipping out some. What was the most fun was classic, actually. Maybe even when using skating poles and the new “skate in tracks” style of Striding Doublepole. No skid-out there but lots of nice speed.

OK, in the end I have to confess that the lake wasn’t too exciting. When it’s pure black ice, it comes to life, but now that we have SNOW I know where I’ll GO!!!!
