Here’s a forum report, with pics, from a guy about his all-day solo skate ski journey in the High Sierras of Nor. Calif.
It’s titled “Evolution: Skate Ski Alpinism (TR).”
So, snow might get thin down low, but out west all ya gotta do is go UP to find it.
He went 15 hrs, 34 miles, “lots” of elevation gain — on a route that people often take 5+ days to ski and camp.
He used goofy little Fischer Revolutions, but they worked for him! (They were just about the only ultra-shorties ever made. Last year I sold a garage sale pair I had. I tried ’em. They didn’t seem to go. But maybe they were fine for the steep terrain he was in — he did a bunch of jump-turning down steep slopes. He also brought a rucksack and hiking boots for when the going was more rock than snow.
He met a couple different parties/persons along the way with huge packs and alpine gear.
It seems like his route required serious mountain navigation skills. Big features were involved. You wouldn’t want to take a wrong turn.
