It’s a blurry pic but there ya have it. It was a great ski day. Sunny, blue sky, fresh snow, warming. It might be the last.
That’s the problem. I’ve been skiing every day for the past 2 months thinking that each day might be the last. Michigan conditions vary so fast and get so nasty so quick by so many ways that the rule is: if it’s nice, go.
But every day it has been somehow skiable. Sometimes darn sketchy, but skiable.
I only go for a half-hour, hour, so I figure I’m not overdoing it. It’s my fresh air for the day. I find that I can’t resist blasting a little bit every time.
So it ends up that perhaps I’m skiing the way that all the fitness books say to avoid: medium-hard every day.
Upshot: I’m tired and sore!
Yet there’s some kind of screwy fitness there.
And I broke my allrounder skis a few weeks ago. So I’ve been using my racers in the meantime. They’re kinda squirrely on the homemade trails. So I’m sore, tired and getting tossed around. But I just can’t quit.
(I plan to get up north to Dick’s ski shop in Grayling asap—he has a pair of 210 Fischer Country’s set aside…lovely 60mm tour-skis. Too bad they aren’t the worldclass solid red that model was a few years ago. The last gorgeous ski!)
Well, we’re out of town the next couple days…and it’s supposed to get up to 50F. Who knows what’ll happen! Maybe I’ll get some rest!
I haven’t skied the lakes yet either. That’s how I get my Big Sky vibe and view around here. A sense of being in remote forests—that’s what I get skiing out on a big woodsy lake. Maybe crust days are ahead!
