Bark River Knife & Tool is a company that descended from the world famous Marbles Company. They’re in the U.P. of Michigan, with an outlet store on Hwy 2 near Escanaba. They offer a classy line of knives.
A great place to buy these knives is McKnight’s shop in Baldwin, MI, near where we have our trailer on the Pere Marquette. He has lots of prototypes not shown at the BR homepage.
(FYI, here’s the BR homepage link to the knife shown: www.barkriverknifetool.com/professional/trickle/index.html)
Jeff McKnight’s personal shop site is worth checking out and ordering from. Note that you don’t see all the knife pics at first: you have to scroll down to see the line-up for each brand he offers. (If you order, or stop into his shop ever, say you found out about him from me and my site. I’ve stopped in a few times. Don’t really know him yet, though.)
Another knife company that spun off of Marbles is also near Escanaba is the Rapid River, or Wolverine, I can’t quite tell. www.wolverineknifeworks.com. They offer the neatest filet knife I’ve seen — the only one I’ve seen done at a fine knife level of quality.
Hey, I see yet another local outfit on McKnight’s site: the Northwoods company—and it, too, looks like a Marbles spinoff. Amazing. I hadn’t heard of them. I wonder what’s going on up there…
Lastly, the Grand River Knife Works is from the Lower Peninsula, I think. (It’s a river that goes right through Lansing, anyway.)
