The NYT recently published some slander about our venerable old ULA. That we were ‘unpublishable.’ …Despite being published and popular in the underground. Such a slur at the world’s main newspaper might hurt our chances at a breakthru, doncha think? Not very fair, considering none of our books have been reviewed in the mainstream (great reviews underground). Kinda tilts the table against us, I’d say. Why so mean? Why kick a group when they’re down?
Actually, a review of a new compilation book by Tom Bissell that included a hatchet job essay against us is what provoked the snotty remark.
The essay had been revised some before republication. Why the fuss? The changes made it MORE false. It’s like someone was wanting to get the erasure of our artists just so. Weird gloating. A weird attempt at tidying the mop-up job against us.
Very strange for the writers on top of the System today to do to writers who never had a chance, were never given a tiny opening. Kick em when they’re down.
Thankfully we still have our books. Available here at OYB. They’re good. Better than theirs, even. So there’s that. Always that.
Powerful wimps are always nervous. They better be…
