3 Gun competition sounds pretty neat! I like this recent trend to versatility in outdoor sports. (The “Total Outdoorsman” being the main player here — other than my own “Backyard Olympics” events. : ) )
3 Gun is big now. It has its own TV show and its own magazine.
The event has you shooting: *pistol; *rifle; *shotgun.
What’s not to like?
That’s what I usually do when I go to the range! I like to do it all on each visit. …Plus I like to *run* to the target and back when I do the 100-yard shooting. (What’ll happen the next time I race Henry? We were a tie a couple years ago. By all biology he should clean my clock next time!)
However, I do note the caveat that our local club only allows thrown-clay shotgunning on Wed’s eve’s, so I don’t do this sport there! There’s enough paper target action to keep us busy. We work our way along the ranges and targets, from near to far. Now that’s a great outing! And it only costs about $50 for our club!
Here’s what we do: We start with a variety of pistols at 25 then move to pistols at 50. We’ll add a little .22 rifle about then as well. Then move out to 100 and still keep a bit of pistol action going with a .357, but we transition mostly to standing .22 autoloaders. (With running to and fro the targets.) We’ll also add in a bit of M1 about now. Then we move out to the 150 range and still keep the .357 in play a bit, just for fun, but we lean on the M1. Then we’re exhausted and somewhat giddy and call it a day and load up the guns into the ol’ Burley trailer and pedal on home! (3 miles away.)
