Did you know that there are 20,000 of you who hit this site monthly? That’s about the size of it, in case you wondered.
Now, I don’t have a regular “Letters” section because every article has one. But in general what’s your take on OYB? You can let the world know right here. I’m not just looking for a pat on the back, but advertisers—indy biz that needs a national hookup—would appreciate seeing your view.
Also, feel free to email me any links, reports, stories, pics, vids or audio that you might have or find that seems OYBish.
I don’t think anyone cares, but if I can figure out how to put OYB over the hump, this will be the only general indy culture resource that’s supporting a family. The OYB projects all run in the black but they’re each just *so small*.
You can help. No, it’s much more than that: there’s no other national general media that you can be part of. You’re shut out, except at OYB. Anyone think the kind of access and topic-range of OYB is worth something? Hello? Why is everyone so shy? Here at OYB you get to share with 20,000 other diverse souls every month. It could be fun!
Actually, you have been contributing already, many of you. I get email tips all the time. This is really no one-man-show. I’m just a middleman sorting the goodies that people show me.
But feel free to do more: get your own byline! send in stuff!
My email: jeff (at) outyourbackdoor (dot) com.
Now, here’s what *I* plan to do to improve OYB…
*publish more books
*respect the seasons and season-openers for main topics (sports, hook’n’bullet, food, culture)
*install a real shopping cart
*install an RSS feed (so you can get OYB news as it comes up)
*make my favorite links / linked pages more prominent
*attend and have booths at various art/trade/media/specialty shows and events
*maybe maybe maybe put up a new story every day… !!!
Whattaya think?
I’ve been getting plenty of behind the scenes support for the 15 years I’ve been doing OYB but since the advent of the Net many fewer of you all seem willing to be public about it. I have no idea what’s going on.
