Ya gotta love a movie feauring Stingrays. How many movies out there do so? We need more.
This one only uses the Stinray as a launchpad. It’s really about the history of BMX.
Now, I’m personally not so big on BMX per se, but I’ve had some fun doing it — the last time was when I was 30, I think. And I taco’ed a wheel. Arena- or rink-sport is just not my thing so much. But I suppose I’m just not very coordinated nor am I big on thrill-seeking or adrenalinism.
Still…this movie has a nice long heritage lead-up showing how we rode bikes for fun in the 1970’s before things got fast and high.
Hey, I have some wheely shots around here, too! : )
Me…
My neighbor, Steve…
OK, now here we are with a friend…
(I think we were both riding my brother’s bike. These pics are some of my earliest darkroom experiments. All possums were unharmed in the filming.)
Anyway, this Joe Kid movie is bigtime. It’s narrated by Jesse James, even. And has Spike Jonze, the famous director in it. I guess he was a BMX kid, too.
Guess what, some local guys just built a pump-track a half-mile down the road from us in a park. I’ll have to take the kids over there. Ya never know where it might lead…
