Hot spiced wine!
It’s getting cold up north here. We have our fireplace stoking. I’ve been shoveling a lot of snow.
When you come in out of the cold and sit a bit by the fire the thing to drink that really hits the spot is some hot spiced wine done the traditional Swedish way as Glogg.
I “gloogled” some recipes and I’m guessing there’s a powerful “close enough” situation going on with this brew, so I give you permission to just wing it!
What you do is boil/simmer a bunch of spices for about an hour then add it to red wine and get that simmering. You can let the spice-concoction sit overnight if you like—it only gets better. You can strain the spices out of it or let em just keep perking.
Here it is:
the spice brew:
3 cinnamon sticks
tablespoon orangepeel
tablespoon lemonpeel
chunk o ginger
10 cardamoms
10 cloves
4 allspice
1 c. water
1 c. sugar
Stew up the mix for an hour then add a bottle or 2 of red wine. Get it all simmering hot and serve up.
Ya know, this is basically the recipe for Chai Tea. Just take the initial watery, lovely-smelling simmering brew and add black tea to it (cream, too, is nice).
