We’ve been reading a dandy Xmas book for the kids. It’s Ray Brigg’s “Father Christmas.” It has a lovely quiet flow and style—with a hardworking Santa who lives a simple life.
Figgy pudding makes several alluring appearances.
So I’m making it on Xmas Eve.
Irma’s 1st edition said to steam for 4 hours. That’s a bit stout, so here’s the online recipe I’m using instead: Figgy Pudding Recipe.
And here’s a link for ordering the book… Hardcover edition of “Father Christmas”
Here’s where it first shows up, in someone’s back yard, while Santa is making his rounds:
After work, before his bath, he gets things in the oven…
Then he has a lovely little feast…
Followed by a desert fit for Santa:
Inspiring, no?
UPDATE: Well, we had the figgy pudding. It was fun making it. It takes a couple hours to steam it done on the stove-top. Smells good the whole time. In the end, it’s a hot, moist, rich, dense cake with dried-type fruits in it. Like a fruitcake, I suppose only not as dense and much softer. It was tasty and boozy. Just right. I forgot to flame up the sauce—that woulda been cool.
