TQM and other Buzzwords
I’m wondering about the Corporate Mentality and Academia. Do they critique the MBA and TQM mindsets very much at MBA biz school? It seems like lots could be said about different ways of doing business. Do they have students read the classics of anti-corporatism or some such? I’m hoping it’s not all True Believer stuff.
Just for starters, it occurs to me that this trend of companies asking for your life then giving zero security in return is a strange one. Like, people work such long hours, specializing in working up tons of Team Spirit, giving it all for the old home team, then they also either cut each other to shreds or get axed without hesitation. They also have to be psyched to be ready if some other company waves a green flag to them to hop ship and join them instead. We’re like a Big Family but keep your resume updated.
That would seem to put most corporate people into the nuthouse or a medicated fascimile.
And that’s just one tiny aspect of the modern work world.
Hopefully it’s all different from what I imagine it to be!
Say, have you seen the hilarious movie ‘OFFICE SPACE’?? Dark humor plus plenty of slapstick and subtle nuance. I really laughed at the scene where the buddies are talking about their futures as they walk to lunch from their office building. Ties flapping, they head across the parking lot, down and then up a drainage ditch, then across another parking lot to the chain restaurant for lunch. What a perfect scene!
Made me wonder all over again what planet we’re on. –Planet Morel! (We just had a venison, morel and asparagus dinner!)
