I think that parties are best if they display ALL the kinds of color:
*Flowers
*Candles
*Paper streamers
*Electric Xmas-type lights
*Food colors
*Fabric
Bio, printed, electric, fire, edible: colors come in many types and all have something to contribute.
Hmmm…maybe *music* offers a kind of *aural* color.
Try to include as many kinds of color as you can at your next get-together and see how it goes!
