*Local bike commuting hero, Bob Gibbs, is 93 and bike tours frequently and does daily bike errands.
*Al Widing, Sr., is 84 and races at the elite pro level in the Au Sable Canoe Marathon, a 120-mile, 17-hr all-night event. He often races with younger family. Tough as nails.
*I saw an 85-yr-old lady who paddled a solo kayak in the 25-mile Half Hugh a few weeks ago. Gotta get her name. Spry.
*Verlen paddled 1000 miles of the Yukon with his wife (on par) when he was 80+.
*Who’s the fastest oldster in the Birkie, how about? OK, I just
checked and Elizabeth Schluter is in the 65-70 age group and did the 50k skate in 3:08 — woulda kicked my ass. Whoa! Bob Nesvold, in the 70-75 group beat her by a minute. It would be tough to break into the top 10 of the 65-70 men’s group there.
