OK, I went nuts for Halloween this year. I’ve been learning about the steampunk thing. It ties together a bunch of nifty threads for me, so I went for it and spent a few hours on Halloween day building up this costume. Henry approves! But he says he’s making his OWN next year. That’s cool — coz steampunk is all about DIY.
The trick in costuming is not to get too burdened by apparatus nor get too hot in clothing. I got a little carried away but almost pulled it off.
I was thinking of a little cosplay, too, with this get-up — with some Lord Yupa of Nausicaa (Valley of the Wind) and a bit of Castle in the Sky, maybe some Porco Rosso. OK, maybe some Sky Captain. Someone else mentioned League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The bad guy from Hellboy even came up, though I haven’t seen that movie, that I recall.
The first guy I went up to at the crunkin’ costume party, Bob “Jack’o’Weeny” the DJ, nailed me as “Steampunk!” on his first try. Other folks guessed “a yodeler?” “Dr. Doolittle?” “Baron von Munchhausen?”
