James Oliver Curwood and Woods Wife
JOC was Michigan’s most famous conservationist and adventure novelist. He wrote popular northwoods movies of the 1920s. Lived in the modest town Owosso and is its most famous resident. Spent most of his time in the far north of Canada and the NWTerritories, living off the land. The photo shows a sensitive, refined face, I think.
The photo of JOC shows him with one of two guns he seemed to use. A Remington .35. The other was a Savage 99. He’s lefthanded. The .35 was my first deer rifle. The Savage is my favorite. And I’m a lefty. How bout that!
The photo of the missus tells a pleasant and sufficient story all on its own as far as I’m concerned. She has sharp, snappy features, lots of confidence and looks fit. Northwoods gal!
I like seeing old pictures of people who still look hot’n’happenin. Just shows that ‘new’ and ‘cool’ carries as much inherent worth as the paper it’s shouted on.—JP
