If you like multi-generation hang-outs and classic style—in a, say, 20’s-40’s vein—well, here’s a great place for sharing your stories and info. It’s a scene that appreciates leather, wool and canvas…and a good martini…and for seeing the dark gritty night for what it is. (It’s all about the water, baby.)
Come to think of it…good music, good cars, good architecture, good manufacturing in general…a lot of it harks back to them glory days. Stuff with lasting style and class.
(Of course today’s plastic 35mpg cars that go 200k mi’s safely…and energy efficient homes that a two man crew can build in a week…aren’t anything to sniff at, in their own right. But there’s more to life, ya know.)
And you know they got it going on when the ladies are in on the action. That’s style for ya. So much of those on the Net who incline to candor and individualism is strictly of the male persuasion for some sad reason. You know a project has really come to life when the better half shows up and pitches in.
Also, it seems to be all-ages—another good sign.
There are collectors here and reenactors but they’re not sticklers. Classic comes from somewhere and has left traces in a lot of things today. It’s neat to see some parts of it still developing, too. Like, the Revolutionary period folks have their reenactor scene thriving and dialed in (along with so many other scenes, like every War period, Mt-men and the like) but it seems like 30’s-40’s style camping might still be taking shape.
