In the world of small boats, when you’re in color, you’re mighty swell already. You have a subject that throws itself at you with charming imagery.
SCA is a wonderful mag about a wonderful world.
I love their bookshop pages. Man, they have great, rare, hard-to-find goodies. Like all of the Swallows & Amazons stuff! Be still my heart! This is juvenalia to stir the heart for a lifetime. This is the BEST bookshop for small boats anywhere, bar none! It’s a privilege and treat just to have such titles made available. What a service!
Our editorial is by and large perfectly lovely. None of it is over the top with inaccessibility like certain mags that regularly feature $10k wooden dinghies.
This is an important and necessary mag due to its sharp, color photos of a world worth loving. A human scale world of VAST scope. There’s so much going and so much to do in small boats. MORE than with big boats, at least of the recreational variety. (MAIB, praise be, includes a regular column on the commercial shipping of the world. Very important for all small boaters to keep in mind. Since that’s what we see so much of whenever we go out on big water. Issue #55 of SCA features the amazing new Texas 200 small boat rally, an event of friendly simplicity.
There’s an interview with a guy who wrote a book about all the amazing small boat voyages, asking him about various salient aspects of said voyagers, which aspects are well worth knowing if you are inclined that way or curious. Many have disappeared, many haven’t. What are the differences?
Every ad and page in this mag is worthy mulling over, because it’s all on a human scale. None of it is pitching anything hard or spun too much.
