Super-Greg and his ultra-adventure friend Jordan Hanssen are setting out today to set a new human-powered record for circumnavigating Vancouver Island.
Greg is a gung-ho entrepreneur who ties his various record-attempts in with larger social issues like childhood fitness advocacy which he promotes on speaking tours, and a fundraiser whereby every mile they pedal can earn a bike for a poor kid with your support. He’s not your usual pro athlete going for established glory.
Greg assembled a team of high-tech experts to build an enclosed pedal-powered sea-boat. His big goal is to pedal it solo to set a new record for HP from Canada to Hawaii. This two-man adventure is a step along the way to test himself, the boat and support crew. He’s pretty amazing how he keeps challenging himself stepwise and diversely along the way even as he’s working on every aspect of a larger mission. Like, he’d always wanted to do a 100-mile ultra-run so he went for that while he worked on building the boat this summer.
Follow this latest attempt via Greg’s blog and all the assorted social networks, if you like. They’re twittering away already.
A garbage truck backed into the boat but their pro builder had it fixed in hours.
The adventure begins!
