[UPDATE from 11/24/11. I finally made a picture of a memorable scene I saw when I looked back down the trail during our night ride. Nobody had a camera, so I had to make an oldschool to provide some art.]
We’ve been having a local neighborhood Tuesday Nite mtbike trail ride this fall. But last night I wandered an hour away and hooked up with a great pre-T-day party in the woods, hosted by Mike of the Aberdeen bikeshop in Chelsea.
Basically, we had a party and a bike ride broke out. 22 with nite-lites rode technical trails for a couple hours under the starry skies at 34F full of joy.
It was amazing to look back and see the line of lites snaking thru the trees, twinkling up and down switchbacks. Then we broke out into a big field and the stars went from horizon to horizon. I turned off my lites. Wow. Then it was bonfire and homebrew time til 1am. Wish you were there! : )
I overdressed for the ride. I only needed my wool shirt and jeans and overbooties, maybe light gloves and thin hat. Halfway into it I stripped down to such a config (but with no hat) and was fine the rest of the way.
No one had a cam on the ride. (I need to refresh my on-ride cam. Slippery, heavy cams don’t need apply.)
I’ll make a painting of what we saw. Forthcoming… Or maybe you can beat me to it! : ) It’ll be black with maybe hints of green and orange and then have lights snaking down some switchbacks. Maybe some shadowy figures with colorful jersies. Not too tricky but it might look cool. It sure did last night!
