OK, my birthday is along about Halloween.
I’m happy about that.
I claim all the colors of October.
I claim all parties that I attend.
I try to get to 3 good costume parties each year.
Apple and pumpkin are my pies.
But I also claim all local cider…and any donuts offered on their premises.
I try to get outside every day in October and go for a half’n’half mix of biking and canoeing. This keeps my colorometer pegged.
This year my costume morphed from last year’s Steampunk over into bikeland with a twist. It’s something like Allan Quatermain from “The League of Extraordinary Pedalers.” …Mixed with a little Steam and some Vendetta (I added crayoned curlique ‘stashes later on, courtesy of Lucy’s great makeup ideas and skills.)
I have to say that the cape was the just about the biggest hit of the concept. Biking with a cape, especially at night, WORKS wonders. It’s easy to rescue civilizations then.
But I even did a whole group ride tour of the Chelsea area during the day with the cape — and the flintlock, in case anyone disputed my right to fly a flag.
And I also did a costume cyclocross race, for the first time. Now I’m thinking that I could just do a cyclocross race in costume — a popular enough gambit as it is.
I have to confess that I screwed up a few times, twice due to fault, once to bad timing. I want to fix all that next year. I actually MISSED two costume rides because I was working on my costume! Argh! And I was sorry not to make the Ann Arbor costume alleycat, but I didn’t know about it until after the Vet’s Park Tailwind costume race — too late, kind of, sort of — oh rats, I shoulda stayed and done it!
