The Huret Jubilee of the 60’s and 70’s is still the lightest and classiest rear bicycle derailleur.
Derailer, derailleur—OK, I’ll go French in honor of it being one of the last great French bike parts.
And I’ll even call it SEXIEST rear derailer, in honor of the French, too.
I forget the details, but I recall that it doesn’t handle more than 5 cogs and was never very precise or zippy, but it worked just fine.
Heck, there might even be some one-off CNC thing lighter out there now, but I don’t HEAR any shifter outbragging it so we’ll leave it at that.
Sure, the old Campy has that heart-pounding ribbed look. But I have to give the nod in the end to the ol’ Jubilee.
It was on my first bike, too. Along with a Stronglight crank. On that old green’n’white Raleigh Super Course Mk II. Oh yeah! (Anyone have a 24″ that needs a good home?)
