I love the idea of bikes in parades. Around here it’s tractors and hot-rods that get the attention. My hunch is it would really help bikers improve community relations — everyone in the small towns comes out for our parades — and if you’re in the parade, you’re cool, you’re solid, you’re in. And, of course, it’s fun for riders, who normally feel off the radar social-wise.
So… Fri., Nov. 19 is the biggest local parade of all: the Silver Bells in the City evening parade in downtown Lansing (https://www.silverbellsinthecity.org). It’s great fun. The hot cocoa goes down real good. There’s truly a neighborly/real-city feeling (anyone need that around here?).
…And this year the LMB.org folks (Rich Moeller and Tom Harpstead) got a bike float approved!
Everyone involved needs to wear strings of portable blinky Xmas lites and dress somehow like a Who from Whoville. Yep, the theme of the float (or parade?) is “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
Email Tom at tharpstead@gmail.com your RSVP ASAP if you’re interested. Of course, they need enough non-introverted riders to make this happen and they need to know well in advance.
