Near the end of a get-together last night a friend said, “This is what I always imagined it would be like. We’re living the dream.”
But anyone can do it, right?
The thing is you gotta take a stand for what your dream is.
I’ve posted about the situation before. In this particular case, there was a famous old weekly mtbike ride that in recent years had gotten out of hand. It had turned into a race-style hammerfest. To the point where no one showed up anymore!
After it had been dead a year, a pal said he was restarting it, at his house, only it was going to go mellow, go on more diverse routes, be for families, and combine with a potluck and music. So that’s what he did.
And 6-12 folks — half new friends, half old — have shown up each time, and we’ve had a dandy time. He gets his BBQ cookin’. He loves to cook. We do a wide range of riding, including to special secret places, then we go for a swim, then we hit the deck with a beer. Then the food comes out, then the guitars and other instruments come out. And one of the new guys says “Whattaya want to hear?”…a high-sign if ever there was one…and we find out that he used to be a pro musician in LA.
Then that other friend said “This is it, what I’ve always dreamed of.”
