The first big road event of the season is coming right up!
And it has the bold-yet-fun style of all Rick Plite’s promotions (see KissCross and the Lumberjack 100). “Racing for Beer” fully crosses over from KissCross, I’m thinking. Especially since Founder’s brewery is the title sponsor and afterparty host.
C’mon, nobody is in great shape yet. Who cares? 2nd is NOT the first loser. This is a party on tasty backroads and two-track.
Roadies, mtbikers, ‘crossers and xc-skiers: unite! …To usher in Springtime!
Show your love of Paris-Roubaix, a race we can’t get into, and which maybe sometimes deviates from its roots a bit. But over here in Michigan we’re keeping the true spirit of springtime ruff-ridin’ alive!
Tourists and tweeders wouldn’t be out of place. It’s a group ride. Well-organized, with plenty of fun’n’schwag’n’chili’n’beer’n’bonfire before, during and after.
If you’re on the fence, jump off and join the fun. I’ll be there, doing my part in the rear quartile. I’m testing a strict XC-ski regime as a base for cycling.
Oh, you want details? It’s held in Barry County in SW Michigan near and around the Yankee Springs Rec Area. You can pick from two events: one big loop of 32.5 miles or go big and do it twice for 65 miles. The rest you can find at the site.
The situation is dirt roads, two-tracks and a couple stretches of singletrack (so I hear). At least one famous loose climb of babyheads. There’s all kinds of ways to skin this cat. You can’t go wrong. (I mean, don’t bonk: bring food’n’drink.) Dress for success.
