Every year in Italy they celebrate old bikes, old bike apparel and old bike roads with L’Eroica. It’s a festival in a prime area of Italy. It culminates in a big day’s ride on the few remaining white gravel roads. It’s also meant as a cause event to help preserve these roads in their rural glory.
It doesn’t seem to matter what period you ride in. But the older you go the more props you get. Some guys on newer 80’s bikes will even cross an inner tube across their chest to catch even a little bit of the oldest way that spare tires were carried.
It’s an event that young and old alive seem to love. Worth the trip, I bet!
There are different routes offered, up to 200km. And I bet the food is great the whole time! The food stops along the ride route are classic—with wine, coffee, cheese, cold meats being offered by ride organizers rather than today’s common fare of gatorade, orange slices and cookies.
