What is Gulf Specimen?
Gulf Specimen is Jack Rudloe’s amazing non-profit environmental education institute and marine supply that collects and ships all manner of sea creatures to aquariums and researchers nationwide. This institute is located in Panacea on the coast just south of Tallahassee. It’s a quiet little slice of Heaven. You walk thru the trees and bird music to explore tanks of sea-critters with a level of access that you can’t get elsewhere. Just down the road is a rival university institute situated behind barbed wire… Rudloe is a leading conservationist in the region, but has been attacked for decades by officials on all sides. But he’s saved a lot of territory and is still kicking! Talk about a fighter!
