Whew…whirlwind action, people!

We ate lunch yesterday with Leslie Ann Warren.

Should I just stop there?

Or should I add that we now have about 500 pounds of guns and ammunition in the car?

Or that tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. I hope to be in Salida, Colorado, to meet hero bike racer Matthew Lee as he blazes along the Continental Divide in the lead of the world famous Tour Divide Race?

Or should I add that Matthew Lee is a longtime fan of OYB?

Where does it end?

We only now pulled off the highway into a hotel parking lot and I checked the wifi to see when the Tour Divide race was going down. I’d been too busy to keep up with it this year and didn’t know when it would be rolling down through Colorado. Lo and behold the leader of the 30-person, 3000-mile race is Matthew and he should be rolling across our very campsite town tomorrow a.m.!

Crayzee!

It would be so cool to see him and cheer him on! With the whole family standing alongside the trail. I hope I can figure this out! Where is this trail anyway?

Sorry for not keeping this Trip Report up to speed for the past few days but we’ve been burning the candle. We’ve been in Hollywood at Uncle Kent and Aunt Jo’s house.

We went out for lovely dinners with them. We went to Legoland.

Kent is now retired from the shooting sports and bequeathed the last of his guns to me and my brothers.

Henry got a gift of his first gun…a lovely old Browning lever-action .22. Lucky boy! He about had a heart attack.

We visited Chinatown and saw a hold-up in progress. Cops with guns drawn sent us scurrying around the corner.

On the way home from Legoland a blue crotch rocket motorcycle went whizzing past us, whitelining. A few minutes later we drove by him. His bike was in a ball of flame and the SUV he rear-ended was dented. We didn’t see him, but people were running toward the shrubbery.

Today we were driving down a steep canyon highway and came upon a big old Airstream and SUV. The trailer was on its side in the middle of the highway. Later on at a rest area I asked another trailer person if they’d seen the wreck and he said Yeah, and he saw lugnuts on the highway beforehand. The punchline is that we saw the same trailer at a gas station a few hours earlier with its wheels off being serviced. Someone forgot to tighten the lugnuts. Then someone else forgot to check that they were tight. Ouch.

Just before we left Hollywood we went out for lunch at BLD, a nice French place. Leslie Ann Warren and a snappy guy were having lunch next to us. She’s a fave actress for me. Actually, we got eye contact—I think she even raised her eyebrows a bit—and I thought she seemed like “someone.” It took Martha to describe her movies for me to remember her name later on. A tip o’ the hat to Leslie Ann!

Today we took a hike on a “local’s” trail near Moab just off Highway 128. It’s a great area and full of free-looking campsites along the mighty Colorado River. I’m glad we did that rather than pay $25 to drive the crowded Arches road nearby. Our own personal national attraction.

That’s the latest!
