The name of this guy’s blog comes from Ed Abbey’s “Desert Solitaire,” a fave book.
He’s a hardcore outdoor adventurer in the diverse category: bikes, boats, skis!
He also does philosophy and product reviews. Cool!
I found him while googling for packrafting info.
It’s a prize-winning blog. I like his discussion of blog credibility. He mentions the lack of credentials and verification in blogging. I suppose at the hardcore end this can end up mattering, but I dunno who would get themselves into something intense just from the word of a blog. Considering how this might relate to OYB: when I tell you that a cheap backyard swimming pool is cheap, cool, fun it seems more like a reminder of the obvious to me. No expertise needed. If you’re hot and have some space don’t complain, get a kiddy pool and cool off some. That’s kinda how OYB works. But when I describe a big day of XC skiing might I be misleading someone somehow? Who knows, not me! I have a Comments feature — that nobody uses, so whatever! He concludes that personal reputation is all we got. Fine by me. Maybe someday my posts will get 80 comments like Velouria’s! : ) — Check out her LovelyBicycle.com blog.
