We’re visiting cousins in St. Louis over the holiday.
The 3 older boys are inside playing screenies on the couch, lightly moving their thumbs, staring. (I’m putting the kybosh on it in a moment.)
Last night after it got dark the 2 girls sprang into action with inflatable mattress, lamps, lanterns, a fan, bedding and headed out into the night to camp out in a treefort in the backyard.
Adult bets were placed on likelihood of endurance.
Later in the night a windstorm sprang up, howling in the trees, making the forest sway.
Come morning the ladies were still in the fort.
I asked them how they fared. They said the wind scared them at first. They thought someone was coming up the stairs. But then they said “It’s just the wind.”
Now they’re cleaning out the fort and re-arranging everything, planning on sleeping out every night we’re here.
Brave new girls!
(Time for me to go roust the couchies.)
Today we’re all going on a trail hike!
