Merry Xmas, bike-freak people!
I found my old stash of “Cat 3” comics and scanned a few choice pages for you. I used to reprint various pages back in my print-zine OYB days.
I haven’t seen this comic available anywhere since the mid 1990’s. They’re not even on the collector scene. I think there were only 4 issues and I have them all.
They’re laff riots.
Ken Benusis, a dentist from South Dakota, created these underground masterpieces. Maybe he still has a stash, maybe he’ll do a reprint oneathesedays now that bike-freak culture is blowing up, as they say.
I really dig how Ken — and his total pro sidekick Ken Landgraf, who worked for all the big comics — combined new and old freakatology in their comic art. Desktop publishing was just starting up but that’s not how they did it, really. They just blended a classic graphic style with crazy punk fractal art dot matrix jive.
These comic riffs show us the roots of the BikeSnobNYC and those “Text to Movie” dudes.
Each issue was 32 page. I scanned a smattering of pages to give you a taste.
Check it out…
