Timely presidential quote from “Gulf Coast Boys”

“Gulf Coast Boys” is a memoir I resell by longtime Austin singer-songwriter, Richard Dobson. He grew up playing hard-driving country-rock on the road with Townes van Zandt and is highly praised by folks like John Prine, Nanci Griffith and Steve Earle, but can’t hardly sell a record here in the U.S. He lives and tours in Germany for the past decade. Quite a surprise to him. But ya gotta go where they like country. His work seems great, memorable, to me (which is why I sell it in my MusicStore).

Like many real artists, Ricardo spent many of his best playing years working on jobs like shrimp boat and oil rig. Here’s a quote from his book that jumped out at me.

“I wondered why a tory like George Bush would name his company after a Mexican revolutionary. I had heard that Zapata was a slave-driving outfit, the Black Ball Line of the offshore drilling industry. But I figured it couldn’t be all that bad. I figured wrong.”
