New Hi-Tek World of “Work Anywhere”

Because I’m old I’m behind the times. Well, even back when I was cutting edge, doing a global print zeen, I of course was not the first to do so. It’s rare that even innovators are really cutting edge all the way around. So I don’t mind behind behind the times. It’s what you do with the times that counts.

I confess that all this wireless and cellphone and laptop stuff is starting to freak me out. I mean, you can work anywhere. I always knew that, as all I’ve needed to do my work for years is a laptop, etc., but this wireless jive is putting me over the edge. Also, I used to think that my job aspect of being able to do it anywhere wasn’t all that common.

Anyway, now I could take a phone and laptop into any cafe and just start working and wouldn’t be out of place. Or I could go outside and sit at one of their tables. And design websites for companies around the world. And talk to them, too.

I actually did it for the first time last week. I borrowed a wireless laptop and uploaded stories and worked on the OYB site from a plain old cafe in the middle of town.

It’s just too much.

I could go out amongst the people and do publishing work.

I wouldn’t have to do it hidden away in my cave.

Freaky.
