Commuter bikers are the noblest breed. If one looks at the cultural basis for what the various biker groups do, the commuters come out on top. (OK, messengers are best but they’re limited to urban centers.) Racers and tourists are each a degree removed from the greatness of commuters (racers represent commuters and tourists are recovering/recreating from commutes).

So!

Let’s show off our commutes! Our routes and our bikes and our get-ups. Send in your pics and a description. You can email them to me or just put them up in the Reader Remarks section as you would in any Forum—except this Forum gives you wider exposure than others. The others just preach to the converted. These OYB Forums connect you to the rest of culture. Cool!

I personally get a thrill whenever I hear of someone whose commute includes trails. What a daily adventure that must be!

So send in a pic of your faithful steed. And of your favorite view along your commute. Wow us! Feel free to overdo it, ham it up—put up several pics. A commute can easily have a lot of variety.

I’ll try to do the same. I don’t commute to work but I do indeedy-o do errand rides. Most days to the Post Office, 4 miles each way, on a mix of dirt and paved. I’ll show ya!

(Featured pic here is of Martha with her Raleigh Super Course, 1960’s, with lots of leather, cork and wicker.)

Martha always looks good on her errand rides. Her bike helps. (She doesn’t frown in real life.)

My winter erranding rig. Well, one of them. I’m ready for anything! Yesterday I rode with both backpack and messenger bag. Uh, I had to ride one-handed, though. (This is from last year, witness the snow.)
