OK, the OYB “International Model Perfection” Panniers are ready to roll!

(Can anyone tell me where I got the name?)

Actually, I think I’ll just call it the OYB Lunchbox Pannier.

The size is 8.5″ tall, 4″ deep and 11.25″ wide. It’s small for a pannier, but so fine. Doesn’t weigh much, so that’s nice. They’re great for a citybike. Now, a fullsize magazine has to go diagonally in one. But they’re just right for paperbacks, maps, lunch. Maybe someone can come across the ideal payload.

I only have 40 of these and there aren’t any more on the wholesale market, so for now they’re just panniers. I think these will go in one week.

(Maybe I should just buy up the retail items I can find and convert em and sell em at $75…?) If I ever find a bunch more I might offer an optional shoulderbag attachment, or even…drumroll…a handlebar bag mount option…maybe one that also works as a pannier mount. But I’m busy enough. Whew!

They’re $50 each.

This includes postage in the US. (Non-US customers pay excess postage beyond a $6 subsidy.)

If you want one, use this link outyourbackdoor.com/article.php?id=443 or go to the Drygoods section of the homepage—or just to the main homepage—and order away! The order button is hot.

Ya know, it’s still the world’s cheapest leather’n’canvas pannier. And I think it’s the ONLY leather’n’canvas pannier with this much leather.

Now, these are fabricated from repurposed vintage mil-sup items and are pre-used, but why not call it patina or “beausage”? I do…!

I put my OYB logo on items where OYB is the reason why you’re using em the way you are. I don’t logo-up a rucksack. But if I innovate on something and modify it to beat the band, let’s give the brand some props, why not. : )

The pannier has a stiff leather band about 2″ tall by about a quarter-inch thick inside the top front and back edges and the whole bottom area. It’s a crisp, rugged item. There are even 5 metal button-stands on the bottom so it stands nice and the bottom leather is protected.

The parts are riveted on. The hook is held on with a bungie cord. Now, this bungie rig is NOT max tough! It’s not meant for expeditions nor is it even designed for max-usage. In this case form leads function a bit. The attachment is not meant for off-roading or wretchedly bumpy pavement or intense loads. The pack is small enough that you probably can’t get more than 7 lbs in it. It’ll be secure with that. Also, I doubt you should use it as an everyday allweather commuting set-up. It might lose some pizzazz. Well, maybe it wouldn’t—and all you’d have to do is replace the bungie after awhile if you really go to town with using it. The case IS super strong. The attachment, though, is meant for moderate duty. I wanted it to have a low profile. I didn’t want to overdo the backside with nukeproof Arkel fittings. But if you want a true daily user—get Arkel!

Here are a couple of the panniers that I’ve made to this point. A friend has been in using them for awhile now. Nice, huh? Martha says they’re the best thing I’ve designed.

Remember, here it is from an angle. It’s several inches wide. …I think they should all have the OYB Logo!

Here’s a semi-fair pic of the attachment rig.
