It’s the Time of Year for Persian Breakfast

When I was college age I lived in a housing co-op. I met and hung out with an Iranian guy there named Mahmud one summer after most folks had gone home. The big house meals were over with for the year so a few of us would informally join up. One time after I made him breakfast he said he’d make breakfast the next day, a Persian breakfast. And so he did. What a great thing! It was perfect during the hot weather and we ended up eating that way a lot that summer. Here’s what it was, more or less…

*honeydew melon (or canteloup)

*walnuts

*yogurt

*pita bread

*grapes

*olives

*feta cheese

*prosciutto

Dip, load, gnosh, snack, pile it up to your heart’s content. Enjoy. These items combine to create huge, wonderful taste explosions in yer mouth.

This is also largely the true blue food that people ate who lived to 120 years.
