Villegas: Gung-ho Michigan Foods Restaurant GONE

You are currently viewing Villegas: Gung-ho Michigan Foods Restaurant GONE

We have a really good restaurant just down the road from us. In a minimall.

The owner thinks it’s funny, too. But what can ya do in a minimall world?

(Heck, I meet with a posse of local philosophers weekly in a rotating series of minimall cafes. Take back the parking lots!)

Eric Villegas has a tasty, lively, upscale restaurant. He’s part of the Slow Foods scene. Everything he cooks is creative and made from local foods, in season. He rocks. He knows where it all comes from. He’s hyper. His website and menus are wild conversations about where he found this or that tasty goody around here.

He runs his own TV food show, “The Fork in the Road,” that’s playing around the nation and doing well. www.forkintheroadtv.com

[UPDATE 2008: The restaurant is closed. But the TV show is still going strong, I hear.]

He seems like an energetic, even hyper, fellow. But I couldn’t find pics on his website! Looks like I’ll have to go take my own. I have to capture the minimall essence of his place.

We like his French fries and his tomato soup. Oh yeah! There’s always something thrifty, even in a fancy restaurant. (When we go out, it’s often for appetizers. Most app’s are a meal here in Michigan. No waiting for a table, either.) If you have a decent job and eat out, well, make sure you’re going here if you’re in the area. Keep the money in Michigan and down on the farm. Go local! Go locally owned and operated! Villegas rocks.
