“Messing About in Boats”: June issue

You are currently viewing “Messing About in Boats”: June issue

MAIB doesn’t have much of an online presence. That’s because it’s actually an effective, efficient, one-man real PAPER magazine. The best boat magazine in the world. Use the website to buy a sub, that’s all. Subs are $32 a year for 12 issues. They’re thick, dense 60-pagers. You can’t buy it on newstands, either. Bob hates the waste. Black’n’white. The editor, Bob Hicks, might’ve finally hit 80 years of age. He’s been doing it 25+ years. You can probably request a back issue for $5.

June features include…

*2 features on an amazing guy who cruises in a modified Lightning racing sailboat. He put a cabin on his 16 foot racer and toured it for years. (JP note: A local pal considers it a nasty boat, but, hey, I’d say the important thing is to GET OUT THERE WITH WHAT YA GOT. Which is what our hero did in these reports.)

*An always wonderful report by Hugh Horton, innovator in 50-50 sailing canoes.

*Report from Phil Bolger’s wife about their attempt to save small commercial fishing via a boat efficiency revolution.

*Two other dinghy and smallboat cruise reports.

*Lengthy photo essay and report on vintage smallboat Giselle.

*Report on take-apart wood kayak.

*A salvage boat project.
