Our family all were snuffily but we went up to visit Mike and friends at the Silver Creek cabin over Valentine’s weekend.

Our old van was falling apart. It was supposed to be fixed the day we were leaving. When we went to pick it up our guy said he didn’t do what we asked as nothing was wrong, just a bent front wheel. Gulp. It wasn’t the wheel. But we were packed, so after 3 quick visits to other mechanics in last ditch efforts just in case it WAS the wheel (it wasn’t) we headed north with a hard, hard wobble in the front end. Gulp. We made it. In the dark. We had to sled in a few miles to the cabin through the snow. Owner pal Mike Woodruff rescued us by showing up serendipitously on his ATV. He hauled most of our stuff to the cabin while we walked in by headlamp. Swiss Family Headlamp.

We hung out with the pals then had a nice family ski at the divine Corsair Trails on Valentine’s Day — our first ever. …Which sadly started out with me getting separated for an hour from the family, who went ahead of me on the trails beyond the first intersection. What can ya do.

We saw muddy otter tracks in the snow along Silver Creek. Cool.

Henry and I got crazy on a huge sled hill — sledding is his thing. More visceral. Lucy is gungho for the skiing.

The next evening we invented an ATV Waterski Rig to take a rope-line of skiers over the 2 miles of rough two-track from the cabin out to the Corsair trailhead. Pretty neat.

The first trip Daisy ever made with us, 14 years ago, was on a ski trip to a cabin. This might be her last. She still has a good attitude, though, and the kids love her.

Lucy has really taken to skiing.

Reading around the fire. It’s hard to see, but it’s Daisy between 2 kids on the floor.

There’s a few quirky details in this pic.
