Video of the UNBike Trip: Takin' It Easy, NOT Riding Hard
August 23, 2012

Layne Cameron, Nick Werner, and Kyle Johnson created their own bike tour in Northern Michigan. It's called UNBike Trip, short for Up North Bike Trip. But it's also UN-like many of the other bike trips they've ever organized. Instead of gobbling up miles, they stopped early and often at wineries, breweries, beaches, coffee shops, and restaurants on the Leelanau and Old Mission peninsulas.

Total miles for the three-day trip: 150.
Total beer/wine: ??
Totally the best bike trip ever!

This video is contagious! These guys got OUTTA town and had a blast. THAT is clear!

Layne is a neighbor. When we were setting up for the art fair in Suttons Bay these 3 bikers came rolling by. One hollered at us. Layne? What a coincidence! Turns out they were looking for a place to camp. Lucy, her friend, and I were sleeping out at the art fair as "security" that night, so we just got permission to have 3 more guards! (I make a brief cameo appearance in one of the camera-underwater scenes in the video.) I tell ya, those guys were having FUN. ...Stopping often, swimming, hanging out in cafes. They slapped BOB-trailers onto their roadbikes and by starting early and riding late managed to fit in 50 miles each day in between all the stops. They learned a lot about the area's vineyards along the way! ...Not like their typical bike-mile tours. ...It was the UN-tour!
